Dive and Sea Tenerife ~ Newsletter May 2011.
Hello Again Everyone,
I hope that you are all enjoying our monthly updates, sorry this one is late….
Another busy month here in Tenerife, and looking forward to the summer rush.
Its been great to see lots of new divers last month enjoying the PADI Discover Scuba Diver program.
Its always fantastic to see people get the “Diving bug” and we look forward to seeing them back again to start their diving courses.
Its also great to see some familiar faces back again this month, seeing new sites and enjoying their PADI courses.
Good news this month, our PADI Divemaster intern from last spring, Ryan had successfully completed his PADI Open Water Instructor course.
We look forward to welcoming him back to Tenerife in the next few months as an Instructor and wish him all the best with his future career in diving!
Team Update Adam PADI Divemaster intern, has been doing progressing really well through his internship. Working hard on attaining his PADI Specialities so that he can get his PADI Master Scuba Diver Certification.
Well done to Adam and Andy who both passed the all new PADI Divemaster exams, they are now both on the final stretch towards completing the Divemaster course. Adam has successfully completed all of his Stamina assessments and just have a few more sections to complete before he will be a PADI Divemaster. Adam leaves us this month to go back to the UK to continue his nursing, and more diving!!
SPECIAL OFFERS MAY
Dive Site Review - Adam Gostelow Alcala The dive site is on the west coast of the island in a small fishing village called Alcala. The small bay at Alcala provides a wide variety of marine life in a depth range of 3-14 meters. This can be either a boat or shore dive. When I did the dive we did a giant stride entry and headed to the left of the bay across the sandy bottom in 7 metres of water, passing several boat moorings along the way. As we reached the rocky edge of the bay, we were met by a Green sea Turtle which stopped to check us out before heading on its way.
We continued following the rocky edge of the bay from the left to the right where it ends and empties into the open ocean. A small rocky outcrop is just off shore from the edge of the bay and this was our port of call for the next dive. We circled the outcrop clockwise and upon our return approach we discovered a Bull Ray buried in the sand. Other marine life viewed included Trumpet fish, Grunts, Barracuda and Arrow Crabs. Our dive time was 45 minutes. This was a non strenuous, pleasurable dive that would suit all divers, particularly newly certified open water divers.
Dive Equipment Review - Adam Gostelow Seemann – Vision See Underwater Torch After purchasing the Seemann underwater torch for use as my primary torch, I have found it to be compact, lightweight and reliable. It’s small enough to fit in a BCD pocket or to clip onto a D ring via the lanyard provided. The torch provides an excellent beam of light. It features a locking mechanism on the switch that when activated prevents you from inadvertently turning it on. This switch was easily manoeuvred in the dark even with gloves on.
The Seeman requires 4 C sized batteries, the manufacturers state a 3 hr battery life and with a double O ring seal it can withstand pressures well beyond the confines of recreational diving depth. It was good value for money at 36 Euros given its robust design and powerful beam of light supplied by it. I would Highly recommended as a primary or backup torch.
PADI Speciality Courses Got an underwater camera but disappointed with your photos? Do you come back from a dive excited about the fantastic things you just got pictures off only to be disappointed with the results? Pictures of fins in the way or blurred and out of focus pictures??? Why not do your Underwater photography course?
At only 168 Euros and in just 2 dives see a vast improvement in your technique, and better pictures to show to all your friends and family This course takes you through all aspects of setting up your digital camera, and using it underwater in a waterproof housing to get the best underwater photos with which to remember your dives. you learn to use the PADI SEA (Shoot, Examine and Adjust) method, which takes full advantage of digital technology. The result is good underwater photos faster than you may imagine Most of all however we concentrate on having fun using digital cameras underwater.
More news from Tenerife next month, but in the mean time check out our diary page or Facebook page.
